December 2017 - Balanced/ Unbalanced Choice

2 nd -3 rd  Grade Project Title:   Balanced/ Unbalanced Choice Description: The weight of lines, shapes and colors in a composition determine whether or not it is balanced or unbalanced.  Students chose a topic and thin constructed print using simple tools.  Once finished, each student determined whether their picture was (B) Balanced or (UB) Unbalanced color was added to reinforce this important design concept. Description: An important principle of design is balance.  2nd and 3rd grade students practiced creating both balanced and unbalanced compositions using geometric and freeform shapes.  They also laid out and labeled their final work for presentation. October 2017 - Georgia O'Keeffe Leaves

2 nd -3 rd  Grade Project Title:   Georgia O'Keeffe Leaves Samples of Georgia O'Keeffe's art: Grey and Brown Leaves (1929) Two Yellow Leaves (1928) Description: Georgia O'Keeffe (November 15, 1887 – March 6, 1986) was an American artist who painted enlarged flowers, bones, leaves and shells so people would notice them.  Student artists looked closely at fall leaves and drew a magnified version of their leaf.  Special attention was given to its outside contour line, interior veins and texture, watercolor markers were added on diffusion paper to create this tie dyed look. September 2017 - Kinds of Lines

2 nd -3 rd  Grade Project Title:   Kinds of Lines Description: Students review basic line types.  Lines can be bent or broken into angles.  Lines can create an infinite amount of configurations.  Students developed 2 line designs; one using bent, angular lines, and one using curved lines.  They had a choice of any color combination using markers.  Last, students worked collaboratively to layout 6 or 8 designs in a finished piece.
